Tami Griffith is Science and Technology Manager, U.S. Army Research and Development Engineering Command (RDECOM) at the Simulation Training and Technology Center.
Tami Griffith has the pleasure of conducting research into the use of games and virtual worlds for learning as a Science and Technology Manager for the U.S. Army Research and Development Engineering Command (RDECOM), Simulation Training and Technology Center (STTC). She has been a leader in extending the Army into Second Life as well as establishing a Second Life presence for Team Orlando, a military training and simulation consortium located in the Central Florida Research Park. She is currently exploring ways to improve a user's sense of presence using a low-cost immersive environment. In addition she is tapping into off-the-shelf interface technology such as the Wii balance board, Wii Remotes and webcam technology to create a more natural, realistic interface to games and virtual worlds. Previously she was the Chief Engineer for Interoperability on the OneSAF team in the constructive domain for Program Executive Office Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). She has also functioned as the lead engineer for Common Training Instrumentation Architecture (CTIA) and has experience working on Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) Air-to-Ground Engagement System (AGES) in the live domain. In the virtual domain, she gained valuable knowledge and experience as the lead engineer for Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT). This multi-domain background has provided the opportunity to leverage available components to create innovative training solutions for the Army. Her ultimate goal is to increase the level of realism and sense of immersion for virtual training and learning environments while significantly reducing the training costs.
